European Human Rights Law provides, Article 8, ‘Everyone
has the right to respect for his private and family life,’
and this is now incorporated in the UK by way of the Human
Rights Act. However, there is no statutory right to Privacy,
although arguably it could be understood that a similar right
may lie in confidentiality.

Some individuals, for example, Catherine Zeta Jones and Naomi
Campbell have attempted to use the Data Protection Act to protect
their privacy rights, but have not been wholly succesful. The
law in this area is evolving.
