Company Profile

Bannatyne Kirkwood and France was established in Glasgow in 1785 by Andrew Bannatyne and relocated to their present modern offices in the fine location of Royal Exchange Square, Glasgow.

The firm specialises in media law and intellectual property, with particular emphasis on defamation.

The practice counts among its clients a number of corporate and individual clients as well as major newspapers and publishing houses.

The firm comes highly recommended as a leader in the field of media law amongst others in The Chambers guide to the Legal Profession in the UK.

The firm is well placed to meet the varied needs of our clients with our own expertise and association with Peter Carter-Ruck & Partners in London.

The present partners of the firm have continued with the traditions long established by our predecessors of providing sound advice and effective service to all of our clients.

All of the partners are solicitors admitted by the Law Society of Scotland and Notaries Public. Some are dual-qualified under English law.

As well as having a strong reputation in Scotland in the field of libel and media law, the firm also benefits from a respected civil court department dealing with commercial and contractual disputes, reparation and family law.

We now also have our own in-house Solicitor Advocate, Margaret Smillie.

Our commercial and domestic conveyancing department can assist you with any property purchase or sale, however small or complex.

We also specialise in trusts, the administration of estates and employment law.
