In
January 2003, the European Commission proposed a Directive on
the enforcement of intellectual and industrial property rights.
On 9th March 2004, the Commission received the European Parliament's
support for the Directive
The Directive will now go to the Council of Ministers for there
approval. |
 |
It is understood that if the Directive is adopted at its first
reading (which is expected to be in April 2004). Member States
must then implement the Directive in two years. |
 |
This
will require that all Member States apply ‘effective,
dissuasive and proportionate remedies and penalties’
to protect right holders in the EU.
